Once upon a time I was a High School scripture teacher. I tried to impress on the children the heart of God for them. The teenagers decided that God wasn’t real because they had no evidence of Him in their lives and God had done nothing for them.

I then gave them a scenario where they needed the help of the School Principal, Mr Ibrahim. I asked if they would receive assistance from him if they yelled and demanded help with a bad attitude? ‘Probably not’, they responded.

I asked, “Now what if you treated him with the respect of his position, and you asked with a good attitude? Would you be more likely to receive assistance”?

‘Yes’ they responded.

I went on to say, how much more should we treat the Creator of the world when we are wanting Him to help us?

And this friends is the key to unlocking the grace of God. To me the grace of God is like a river that flows freely, but it only runs downhill, not uphill. To receive His grace, we need to position our hearts to be humble and lowly, not proud and loud.

There is a beautiful song written by Hillsong called Touch the Sky

The lyrics, “I touched the sky when my knees hit the ground,” is the one of the most dramatic and poignant I’ve ever heard. Please take 4 minutes out of your day to reflect on the words and let it soak into your soul. You may even hear the voice of heaven when you do. I pray you do.

I was sitting next to a lady at church on Sunday, and her husband had left her for another; as a single mum and also just recovering from bowel cancer, she had a different outlook on life. She was thankful for her adversity because she had found Jesus more real and closer than she had ever dreamed: she was humbled and she received the grace of God

Whatever you are going through today, I pray that you find the grace of God comforting you!
