Why does Jesus seem elusive?
10 September 2024It’s often been said, “I’ve tried the Jesus thing but he’s not there.”
The very essence of Jesus is elusive. He was concealed in the Old Testament, with vague references of Him coming. For example, a reference of him is: “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” This is from Isaiah 7:14.
Then when Jesus came, in the New Testament, he fulfilled all the references that were made of him. However, Jesus still talked in ‘cryptic’; many times his own friends had to ask what he meant. Phrases like the one in Matthew 13:
Then he (Jesus) told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. … Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
God did this for a reason, He wanted people to seek him in good faith, and he rewarded those that did. In this way he would disclose vital truths to worthy people while hiding it from the undeserving.
Which brings us to the world we are living in now. This physical world and all that we see is not the whole story. There is more. There is also a spiritual world which we cannot see. And just like Bible times, it’s going to take a discerning and seeking heart to find it.
This is just the way God works. So when something ‘weird’ happens after you start to pray, after asking God, “Are you there? Do you care?” Then that’s probably God answering your prayer. I know because it happened to me. If you want to know more, I’ve written a booklet, “Heaven Can’t Wait”, please grab a copy available at your centre.
