The Power of Hello and Goodbye
I’d like to talk about those small pockets of time we often rush through — the moments when we greet our children and when we say goodbye. Whether it’s the morning wake-up, school drop-off, after-school pick-up, or bedtime, these transitions can quietly become sacred rhythms in your child’s emotional world.
They might only last a few seconds, but these moments leave a lasting imprint.
Words That Linger Longer Than We Know
When they wake up, greet them warmly:
“Good morning sunshine, how was your sleep?”
When they leave for school:
“Have a great day, beautiful.”
When they return home:
“What was fun about today?”
And when it’s time for bed:
“Goodnight beautiful, Mummy loves you.”
(Those are just my own — feel free to make your own words part of the ritual.)
At Integricare, we believe it’s in these ordinary moments that the extraordinary love of Jesus is modelled. Our mission and values are centred on the idea that every child is precious, worthy of affirmation, and deeply loved.
There’s Research Behind This
In schools, a study once measured the effect of a simple positive greeting from the teacher at the start of class. The results?
- 20% increase in academic engagement
- 9% decrease in disruptive behaviour
Now if that’s what a teacher can achieve with a short greeting, imagine what a parent can instil when it’s done regularly — with warmth, intent, and love?
What You Say Stays
This is one of the best things I’ve done as a parent. My own children are now in their 30s, and we still do this — the morning greetings, the check-ins, the bedtime words.
And let me tell you, my heart still skips a beat when I hear:
“Love you, Mum.”
These aren’t just habits. They’re building blocks of identity, security, and emotional connection. And in faith-informed families, they’re one of the most natural ways we reflect God’s love.

Faith in the Everyday
At Integricare, we don’t separate learning from love, or education from encouragement. It’s all part of what we call faith-informed early education.
So whether you’re parenting a toddler or a teen, don’t underestimate the power of small words. In time, they echo back — and when they do, they’ll sound like love.
Blessings,
