Grace Isn’t Earned — It’s Received
Once upon a time, I was a High School scripture teacher. I tried to impress on the children the heart of God for them. The teenagers decided that God wasn’t real because they had no evidence of Him in their lives — that God had done nothing for them.
I gave them a scenario: imagine needing help from the School Principal, Mr Ibrahim. Would you receive his help if you yelled, demanded, and approached him with a bad attitude?
“Probably not,” they admitted.
So I asked, “Now what if you treated him with the respect his position deserves and approached him with a good attitude? Would you be more likely to receive help?”
They all agreed — “Yes.”
And I said, “Then how much more should we approach the Creator of the universe with humility when we seek His help?”
God’s Grace Flows Downhill
To me, the grace of God is like a river that flows freely — but it only runs downhill, not uphill. That means we don’t climb to reach His grace with effort or pride. We receive it when we humble ourselves. It’s not about striving; it’s about surrendering.
God doesn’t withhold His presence or favour — but sometimes we block the flow when our hearts are hard or self-reliant. His grace is abundant, but it lands on the low places — the open, humble, and surrendered heart.
This is deeply aligned with our Christian identity at Integricare, where we recognise God as central to all learning and growth — for children and adults alike.
When Surrender Opens the Heavens
There’s a beautiful song written by Hillsong called Touch the Sky.
The lyrics, “I touched the sky when my knees hit the ground,” have stayed with me for years.
Please take four minutes to let the words soak into your soul. You may even hear the voice of heaven when you do. I pray that you do.
Grace Found in the Fire
I was sitting next to a lady at church on Sunday. Her husband had left her for another woman. She was a single mum, still recovering from bowel cancer. And yet — her eyes were clear, her posture peaceful.
She said something that took my breath away: “I’m thankful for all of it, because I met Jesus in the pain. I never knew He could be this close.”
She didn’t earn that grace. She opened her heart to receive it. Her hardship had humbled her, and in the low place, she met a high and holy God.
At Integricare, we believe that every challenge in life and learning is an opportunity for grace. That’s why our mission and values are centred on Christ — because His love is what transforms lives.
Whatever You’re Facing, Grace Is Available
Whatever you’re going through today — whether disappointment, exhaustion, uncertainty, or grief — I pray you feel the nearness of God’s grace.
It’s not far off. It’s not reserved for the perfect or put-together. It’s flowing right now. And when your heart is bowed low, you’re in the perfect position to receive it.
