Being Thankful
10 September 2024There’s a cute video doing the rounds. In it, a 6 year old child, Milo, is explaining to his grandmother that he has a ‘classic role’ in the Nativity Scene their school is doing. The grandma guesses who it is, but after guessing Joseph and the 3 wise men to no avail, she asks the child what it is.
The child is so happy and bursts out saying, “I’ll be opening door number 3”!
The grandmother keeps it together and matches his excitement, then asks how he felt about that. The child responds like his team has just won the Grand Final, “I’m a door holder, get in there, let’s go, yesss”!!

This short video captures what it means to be thankful, and what happens to our hearts when we are in the orbit of someone with deep gratitude. It so moved the public that it has received over 14 million views on social media, and the child was interviewed by Morning Television. It’s ironic that Milo’s reaction to a ‘bit’ part has given him much more influence than if he was chosen to be Joseph!
Imagine when we ourselves have suffered a big disappointment and respond similarly. How do you think God would view us? Do you think His heart would be moved to compassion?
I know when I see a child thankful or trying hard to overcome disappointment, I’m moved to act kindly toward them. If God, who is much more loving, sees us doing similar, then imagine how He will act toward us?
Why not try it today? “Get in there, let’s go, yesss”!!
