Charles Spurgeon’s impact

06 May 2025

Charles Spurgeon was a renowned preacher from England who was impacted by Jesus at a young age. He was a gifted speaker and once while testing the acoustics of a building he was going to be preaching at, he boomed out the phrase, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

He believed he was alone in the building; however, a workman was present and heard his words. This man felt as if the message was directed at him from heaven. He set down his tools, returned home burdened by the weight of his sins, and engaged in a spiritual struggle with God. Eventually, he found peace and became a follower of Jesus.

Charles never knew until years later the result of his ‘throw away’ line.

Sometimes we don’t know if we’re making a difference in what we do. But can you be encouraged by the words of Charles who also said, “Think little of yourselves, but do not think too little of your callings.”

When we think less of ourselves, there is way more time to think about God and what He wants us to do. Whether you are an Educator, Manager or Admin worker, your work is important. And not only what you do but how you perform your tasks. When we stop thinking about ourselves and start thinking of others, we see the opportunities to love and serve them.

So, when you walk past a child who is sad, truly looking into their eyes and give them a smile, what you are saying is louder than any microphone. You are showing the child that they are seen, they are cared for, and they are loved. That they matter to you, and they matter to God.

There is no greater calling than to see the marginalised, the vulnerable and lift their eyes and souls, so they in turn can see their Maker. This act has eternal consequences and will be remembered longer than any brass plaque bolted onto a building.

Go in God today and know that God sees you, and He will reward your work.

Blessings, Vetti x
